Lanse's Sand Hollow WORCS race

Lanse racing Sand Hollow's 1st WORCS race

Lanse was in a race Saturday at Sand Hollow here in St. George. It was the first race out here, and it was intense! He didn't have a "Real" co-driver, because you had to be 15 years old, and Aspen wanted to do the race also, not be a co-driver, but he had his high school senior ball, so he didn't get to do either. So Lanse chose Sam's favorite friend that goes everywhere he goes... Nanners. He is the coolest monkey ever!

So Lanse went out to Sand Hollow with the fifth wheel and his machine trailers on Thursday, and the rest of us went out there after school on Friday. We spent the night and Aspen got up early and went home around 7:30 in the morning to get ready for his day date for the dance. The rest of us hung out and watched all the racing that was taking place. While we were getting Lanse's machine tech inspected, he noticed that he had a nice slice in his rear tire. That put a damper on  it all because he had no other tires with him to put on his machine. So we checked it to see if it was leaking air, which it was and so he put 4 plugs in the tire and crossed his fingers that it would hold out for him!

His race began at 2:00, and it was complete crazy! He was able to get out first and took off like a bullet, but as he came around this first deep rut on a curve, over he went. He tipped the machine on it's side. Luckily a few men from the side lines ran over and tipped him back over and he was on his way! He was doing so well, flying over all the whoops, and through the dunes, and on his second lap, he realized that he had a flat tire, so he had to slow down and that is when other cars started passing him!!! Bummer, but he was bound and determined to get down the hill through the course to the finish line! He did, but his tire was completely blown. It was not the bad tire either, it was one of his good tires, the one with the 4 plugs was up and doing good!

So kind of a bummer race, but he did it and there was no ambulances involved.
